Let talk shop about marketing. One of my favorite subjects when it comes to business expansion.
There are 3 phases of The Buying Cycle, whether it is for a service or a product:
- Learning
- Shopping
- Buying
Learning is all about researching and reading. The consumer looks and listens to what others are saying about it. Is it good? Is it great? Why is it going to make my life simpler?
Shopping is the 2nd stage where the buyer starts comparing who is selling it and which brands are out there. They are thinking, Where can I get it and how much is it?
They look for warranty info and guarantee information. Who has the best reputation? This has 2 layers. One, the product’s reputation. Two, the seller of the product’s reputation. Yes, they can be the same. They can also be different. 7-11 sells Pepsi. Some people prefer Loaf’n'Jug, which I only have seen in Colorado.
Buying is the best stage when your company has won their heart of choice. This is when they are confident they know what they want and are willing to exchange the money for the service or product. Sounds simple?
You’d be amazed at how many sellers have poor pathways to purchase. Ever go to website where you can’t find a way to pay? Frustrating.
Ever go to a store and no is at the register? Bothersome.
Real satisfaction comes to a consumer when they feel that they have made the best decision and it was easy to do. Read reviews on amazon.com and you’ll see how people think real quick.
The 3 Most Important Pieces of Marketing Information
1) The Company Name
2) The Service or Product
3) Contact Information
A brief breakdown of each.
The Company Name if you are a big, successful company opens the customer up to a yes. If you are a small company growing, it brands the name out into the world. The goal of every company or business is to become recognizable to consumers as quickly as possible.
The Service or Product is so they know what they get for the money they will spend. Simple, yet many new marketing campaigns are vague and confusing. Coca-cola can be vague. We all know what they are about. Jim’s Chop Shop needs to let people know that they sell meat. Otherwise, we all think stolen cars. Oops!
We don’t know what or who the little guy is…yet. Tell them briefly. People are smart. They know what they want. Tires and cell phones are so different, you don’t need much copy to clarify your service?
Contact Information is so important to a marketing campaign. Have you ever seen an awesome or funny billboard and squinted to see the website address or phone number far down in a corner? Someone thinks that’s a great way to persuade you to ask about the service or product they offer? Painful.
Sometimes it is written is some dark font that looks like a goth child designed it for bats to see. Really guys? $10,000 for a billboard and you get cryptic with Contact Information. Lesson learned. Cell phones are very popular. People can CALL or TYPE in a website address. Especially people with high-end cell phones because they have more money to spend in the marketplace.
Be smart and simple with your marketing. Start with the basics, then get fancy with the copy and design elements…Trunk Car Marketing for you?
